Welcome to the 92 VReds Page
The 1992 UNB VRed Prospects roster is finally set for spring 2007. Over the years, we have seen many great players come and go, this year, with due to school commitments Zack Phillips, Tyler Piercy, Nic Cyr, Brandon Gormley and a few more of the regulars not able to commit to the team. In turn, the team has picked up some solid players to fill in, and only time will tell how the new group will perform.
The returing defense features Zack Shannon, Garrett Clarke, and Kevin Gagne, three kids that have played together since they were 8 years old, and know each other very well. The three will anchor the D this year, all quick thinking, quick moving and quick passing D men, and look to lead the group along with newcomers Ganss and Blidstrand. Not every day you have to replace a D man like Brandon Gormley, however, with his schooling, he will be hard pressed to committ. Clarke, who has sprouted in height, might be that guy to step up and take charge, and lead this crop of young D men.
Some of the exciting additions this spring are; CJ Ganss a very fast, Kevin Gagne D man from New Jersey, Guan Wang, Jimmy Mullin from Shattuck St Mary's in Minnesota, Brandon Hynes one of the prospects in the 92 class of Newfoundland boys. We also have two new Goalies, in Tony Kujava and JP Anderson who are both rated the tops in North America.
With solid goaltending, and an explosive team up front with returning players like Cody McNaughton, Sean Couturier, Dart, Duff, Belonger, and Keilty, Eick and more, the team looks very good up front.
With another huge addition in a big, rugged, top Sweden defenseman, Ricard Blidstrand, all the way over from Stockholm Sweden, this team looks very solid on paper. Time will tell how the team comes together but it looks like this is certainly tough times for other teams to play this explosive group.
The spring and summer of 2007 looks exciting for the UNB V-Red Prospects.

The History of the UNB 92 VRed Prospects
The 1992 V-Red Prospects have been referred to as a flagship program in the organization. The 92 group were the first V-Red team to win an ATHEQ event in Quebec and have gone on to capture many more championships since. The heart of the team originally came from the Fredericton and Moncton area, with Zack Phillips, Zack Shannon, Geoff Ferguson, Spencer Fry, Jim Keilty, Tyler Piercy, Zack Daigle, Adam Jones, Alex Noel, Garrett Clarke, Julien Daigle, Ryan Murphy, bolstered by the Northern boys Kevin Gagne, and Nick Cyr and Shediac native Luc Poirier, and Gab Doucet, the team competed hard in those first years. During those early years, a second 92 developed made up local players and a few from around New Brunswick competed for about 3 years , and recently dropped off into other areas. As the boys grew older, the local flavor began to diminish, and when the V-Reds joined with the PEI boys, in 2003, the team took great shape, including, Brandon Gormley, Dylan McGuigan, Ben MacSwain, Josh Currie, Logan Garnhum, Jordan Moore, Spencer MacDonald, and Craig Dougan, the team became a force to be reckoned with, often finishing in the top 1 or 2 in every event, rarely ever missing a Championship game. Time progressed and again, an evolution of players, adding boys from the USA like Chris Pope, Ryan Randall, Ryan Michael, and many more, the V-reds constantly achieved success. In the spring of 2006 we found out that one of our top players, Cody McNaughton, whose family grew up in Oromocto, was leaving our team to join the powerful Can Am Selects, this marked a great loss to our team, and a big gain to the Selects, they went on to win 3 straight Gold Medals during the spring of 2006, with a great deal of help from Cody, we expect him back someday however, it is not always about winning, you gotta have some fun!!! Good luck Cod.
In 2005 when the V-Reds were forced to wear the yellow colors of the Montreal Ice Storm in the Onehockey event in Moncton, it was clear to all that the Prospects had become the dominant program in Atlantic Canada, with pick ups, and welcomed back former players Alex Noel, Garrett Clarke, the team had reached it’s high point of success, continuing on to Boston later that summer to win the New England Championships, with Nova Scotia stars Chris Dart, Ben Duffy and Casey Babineau, the Prospects were unstoppable.
As 2006 began, the trend continued, adding great players from the Wisconsin area like Ryan Belonger, CJ Eick and welcoming Garrett Clarke back to the team, the mission cup was the next step to conquer.
The 1992 V-Red Prospects have put a lot of players on the ice in it’s 6 year history, and have had over 100 players play for the team at different times, often with kids from all over North America, no team has played as many events, and had the success they would have had it not been for the strong commitment from both players and parents alike. The 1992 V-Red Prospects continue to play, and will lose many of the players that have come up through the system this year to the US Prep School route, Zack Phillips (Groton School) Tyler Piercy (Eaglebrook) Brandon Gormley (Notre Dame Hounds Saskatachewan) Craig Dougan(Notre Dame Hounds) Kevin Gagne (RCS Netherwood) Dylan McGuigan (RCS Netherwood) Garrett Clarke (Shattuck St Mary's) Geoff Ferguson (Shattuck St Mary's) Nick Cyr, (Harrington College) this bodes well for the organization, and the 1992 group, we wish all the boys continued success in their studies and in their hockey.
The 1992 V-Red Prospects have competed in 39 events since their inception, capturing 11 Gold Medals, 9 Silver, 6 Bronze and finishing in the top 8 teams 33 of 39 times, an accomplishment totally worthy of the hard work the boys have put in. Recently, the bulk of the 1992 Prospects captured the prestigious Hockey Night in Boston Gold Medal in May of 2006, the first Canadian team to win the event in 34 years running.
The 2007 summer is expected to be a good one, the V-Red Prospects will particpate in their first ever Senior Advanced Camp at UNB under Coach Gardiner, MacDougall, this prestigious camp features the top 89, 90 and 91 born players from the Eastern Seaboard and a couple European players, the 92 V-Reds are privelaged to be able to particpate at this high level. Here is a look at some of the players that have worn the Red, Black and White of UNB since the inception of the team at the 92 level.
