RECENT NEWS / EVENTS
- June 1, 2010 - ’00 V-Reds Reach Semi-Finals in Halifax
This past weekend the '00 V-Reds competed in the NS Prospects Challenge Cup held in Halifax, NS. This was the first time the boys had attended this tournament which had all the top '00 teams from NB, PEI and NS attending. The boys were expecting some very tough competition and the teams did not disappoint.
First up were the PEI Riptide. It had been awhile since the V-Reds had played the Riptide. The Riptide turned in a very steady performance and with three well-balanced lines were a little too much as they went onto to defeat the boys 5-3. Next up were the South East Selects. These two teams knew each other and were expecting another close game. A fitting 4-4 tie was the result.
On day two the boys knew that they had some ground to make up if they were to meet their objective of playing on Sunday of every tournament. First up that day were the Cape Breton Fire. The boys came out hard and cruised to a 15-0 win. The final game was against the always tough NS Selects. It was a situation where the winner advanced to the crossovers and the loser went home. The contest proved to be a penalty filled game with the boys having to play a majority of the game shorthanded. In the end, the boys stood tall and came away with a 6-3 win and were moving onto the semi-finals against the PEI Riptide.
In the semi-finals, the boys jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead but the affects of playing 10 games in 9 days proved too much as the Riptide clawed their way back to a 4-3 lead mid-way through the third period and added an empty-netter to claim a 5-3 win and moved onto the finals later that day.
Ending the tournament with a very respectable 2-2-1 record after claiming Gold in Boston just a few days earlier is something the boys should be very proud of accomplishing.
Thank you for a great season boys ! Enjoy your summer and we'll see everyone in the fall !
- May 25, 2010 - ’00 V-Reds Capture Second Consecutive Gold !
Another tournament. Another GOLD ! This past weekend the ’00 V-Reds showed that winning Gold in New Hampshire two weeks ago was no coincidence by going 5-0 again and capturing the Gold this past weekend in Marlborough, Mass at the Spring Fling AAA Tournament. Teams from across the New England area attend this annual tournament.
Starting the tournament against the New Jersey Diablos was just the test the boys needed to get started in the right direction. A tough contest but the boys came through with a 4-0 victory. Next on the schedule were the Washington All-Stars. A bit of an unknown, the boys did not want to take anyone for granted and came out hard. Again following their motto of Never Give Up; Never Let Up, the boys went on to a 10-0 victory.
Starting day two, 2-0, the boys were to see their toughest opponent thus far, the Renegade Selects. While the boys did not play to their potential it was enough to squeak out a 3-2 win by scoring with 11 seconds remaining. This allowed the boys to finish the round robin portion of the tournament 3-0 and obtain the number one seed going into the playoff round.
In the semi-final, the ‘00s were up against the Westchester Selects who the boys played last year in a very physical encounter. This was to be very similar. The Selects proved again that the physical part of the game was to their liking. In the end, the boys prevailed 6-2 and were moving onto the championship game against the underestimated Long Island Roadrunners who were also 4-0 heading into the final.
The final proved to be the toughest test for the boys of the tournament. The Roadrunners were a small but very skilled team. In the third, the boys kicked it into high gear and pulled ahead 5-2 with a few minutes remaining. Not wanting to be denied, the Roadrunners came on hard and pulled to within one with a mere 30 seconds remaining. In the end, it was not enough as the ’00 boys captured their second consecutive championship.
Congratulations Boys ! You Deserve it !... some pictures !
- May 11, 2010 - ’00 V-Red Prospects Capture GOLD in New Hampshire !
This past weekend, the ’00 V-Reds took their game to a whole new level when they competed in the Reebok AAA Cup in Manchester, NH and brought home the Gold ! Going undefeated through the entire tournament, and outscoring the opposition 37 – 9 in the process, the boys demonstrated their ability to raise their game and meet the toughest of challenges.
Action began Friday morning when the boys played the host NH Knights. Wanting to establish themselves early on as the team to beat, the boys came out with the necessary intensity to take control early and never look back. Result: V-Reds 8 NH Knight 2. Their next game, scheduled for later that day, was against the unknown Eastern Ontario Flyers. Again, consistent team play proved too much for the Flyers. Result: V-Reds 6 Easter Ontario Flyers 0. After day one, the boys stood atop the standings, 2-0.
The second day began with a game against a very talented and skilled ’01 Super NH Knights team. Again, continuing their impressive play from day one, the boys used their speed and skill to cruise to a convincing 9-3 win. The final game of the round robin was against the always tough Beantown Bullies from Boston. Wanting to wrap up the round robin portion of the tournament undefeated, the ’00 V-Reds continued their strong team play with a balanced attack and winning 7-3.
Completing the round robin portion of the tournament with a 4-0 record, the boys were the heavy favorites heading into the championship game on Sunday against the host NH Knights. Wanting to show that the results of the round robin portion were justified, the balanced attack again took control and the boys cruised to another convincing 7-1 win.
Finishing the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record is something the boys are very proud of as they now prepare themselves for their next challenge, the Spring Fling AAA Cup being held in Marlborough, Mass in two weeks.
Awesome job boys ! ... some pictures !

- Apr 26, 2010 - ’00 V-Red Prospects Visit Challenge Diable Rouge Quebec AAA
This past weekend the '00 V-Reds competed in their first tournament of the 2010 season by participating in the Challenge Diable Rouge Quebec AAA in Quebec City. This was the team's first visit to this particular tournament and they had been working extremely hard to ensure that they would be ready.
The boy's first opponent were the tournament favorites and eventual champions the Montreal Super AAA Ice Dragons. Its unfortunate that the boys met such a strong opponent so early in the tournament. Nonetheless, the Ice Dragons showed why they were the favorites, handing the V-Reds a 10-1 loss to open the tournament. Next up were the Albatros who the boys competed against last season in Laval. Wanting to finish the first day with a split, the boys were leading 2-1 with less than a minute remaining. With a final push, the Albatros scored and game ended tied, 2-2, and with the boys finishing day one with a 0-1-1 record.
The following day, the boys were scheduled to play the Spider Elites and the Montreal Monarchs. Knowing that to have any chance of making the playoffs, they would need to win both of their games, they prepared themselves for a day of stiff competition. The Spiders were their first opponent. Again, playing with determination and entering the third period tied at 1-1, the boys stepped it up to take the lead and eventually the win, 2-1, and now owning a record of 1-1-1.
The Montreal Monarchs, were their final opponent. Entering the game it was determined that they needed some help to make the playoffs. But the boys wanted to take care of their own business and not rely on anyone else to assist them. Needing to make up some ground in the tie-breaker standings, the boys came out hard and skated to a convincing 4-1 win.
In the end, the boys did not get the help they needed and ended up out of the playoff round because of the tie-breaker.
Finishing the tournament with a very respectable 2-1-1 record was a strong start to the season and something that they plan on building on heading into their next tournament, the Reebok Cup, in New Hampshire in two weeks. Keep up the hard work boys !
- Apr 19, 2010 - ’00 V-Red Prospects Complete Successful Exhibition Schedule
This past weekend the '00 V-Reds completed their exhibition portion of their spring schedule by splitting a pair of games against the '00 South East Selects. With two games scheduled for Saturday, they boys came out hard and never let up in posting a convincing 6-0 win. In game two, later that day, the boys were warned to expect a totally different Selects team and they did not disappoint. The Selects came out hard and wanting a split they skated to a narrow 5-4 victory.
The weekend prior, the V-Reds played the Saint John Screaming Eagles at the Aitken Center. Once again the boys came out hard posting a 6-0 win.
