U14 Girls win Lady Flames Classic in Mass. !!!
- June 14, 2012 - V-Red Prospects Girls Win Silver in Montreal Ice Storm AAA Tournament !
The V-Red Prospects AAA U14 Girls hockey team won the Silver Medal at the Montreal Ice Storm AAA 2012 Tournament last weekend. The V-Reds were plagued by injuries and took to the ice four players short for the tournament.
The V-Reds opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over the Ottawa Junior Senators. Mikayla Nichols of Oromocto earned the shutout and played in all five games in the tournament due to an injury to goalie Marlene Boissonnault. The lone V-Reds' goal was scored by Saint John native Stephanie Hampton, assisted by Fredericton’s Janie Poitras.
Game two of the tournament against the Montreal Avalanche was a 2-1 loss for the V-Reds. The V-Reds goal by Miramichi prospect Andrea Dinan was assisted by Moncton’s Morgan Porter.
In their third game the V-Reds defeated the Quebec Gouverneurs 6-2. Goals were scored by Poitras with two, singles by Madison Murphy from Saint John, Hampton and Rothesay prospect Christina Rombaut.
The V-Reds played the Quebec Gouverneurs in the semi-final round on Sunday morning defeating the Gouverneurs 5-1. Goals were scored by Poitras, Porter, Hampton, Rombaut and Fredericton’s Grace Graham. The V-Reds out shot their opponents 56-10.
The V-Reds played the Montreal Avalanche in the final round losing 1-0 in double overtime. The V-Reds outshot the Avalanche 32-12.
The V-Red Prospects participated in four spring tournaments, playing 26 games and winning two Gold and two Silver medals.
- June 7, 2012 - V-Red Prospects Girls win Gold in New Hampshire Reebok Cup !
The V-Red Prospects AAA U14 Girls hockey team won five of six games at the Reebok Cup 2012 Tournament in Hooksett, New Hampshire last weekend. The tournament was hosted by the New Hampshire Knights.
The U14 division was made up of teams from New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
The V-Reds opened the tournament with an 8-0 win over the Saratoga Fillies from New York, outshooting them 54-4. Mikayla Nichols of Oromocto earned the shutout. The first V-Reds' goal was scored by Fredericton native Grace Graham, Assisted by Tobique prospect Chloe Perley and Minto’s Sarah Bartels. Miramichi City prospect Caitie McCabe scored twice and had one assist for the V-Reds. Rebecca Ring from Saint John had two goals, with singles to Catherine Hache, Megan Porter and Janie Poitras. Victoria Peterson of Fredericton had two assists.
Game two of the tournament against the Lady Privateers was a low scoring contest for the V-Reds ending 1-0, although the V-Reds out shot their opponents 35-6. The goal by Graham, assisted by Perley came early in the third period. Campbellton native Marlene Boissonnault was in goal for the V-Reds.
In their third game the V-Reds defeated the Lady Vipers 3-1. Goals were scored by Graham, Perley and Rothesay prospect Christina Rombaut, assists to Peterson with two and Bartels one.
The V-Reds suffered their only loss in the tournament on Saturday evening 3-0 to the host New Hampshire Knights. As a result of this loss the V-Reds were scheduled to meet the Knights in the semi-final round on Sunday morning.
The V-Reds defeated the New Hampshire Knights in the semi-final game 2-0. Perley scored assisted by Bartels and Murphy, followed by Porter, assisted by McIntyre.
The V-Reds played the Lady Vipers in the final round winning 1-0 on an overtime goal by Grace Graham. Marlene Boissonnault recorded her second shutout of the tournament. The V-Reds outshot the Vipers 30-7.
The V-Red Prospects Girls travel to Montreal for the Montreal Ice Storm Tournament this weekend.
- May 24, 2012 - V-Red Prospects Girls win Silver in Quebec City !
The V-Red Prospects AAA U14 Girls hockey team won five games, tied one and lost one at the Quebec Challenge Cup 2012 Tournament in Quebec City last weekend. The tournament was hosted by the Bulldogs of Quebec City.
The U14 division was made up of seventeen teams from the Eastern United States, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada.
The V-Reds opened the tournament with a 4-0 win over the Trois Rivieres Pantheres. The first V-Reds' goal was scored by Fredericton native Grace Graham. Moncton prospect Morgan Porter scored twice for the V-Reds and Andrea Dinan of Miramichi City had one. Victoria Peterson of Fredericton had two assists with singles to Chloe Perley of Tobique and Grace Graham.
Game two of the tournament was by far the toughest contest for the V-Reds against their arch rival the Ottawa Maplesoft Hawks (Major. The teams played to a 1-1 tie on a goal by Perley, assisted by Porter and Nova Scotia prospect Shaelyn McIntyre.
The V-Reds dominated the Conneticut Yankees in game three of the tournament outscoring them 5-1. McIntyre scored assisted by Saint John prospect Madison Murphy, followed by Minto native Sarah Bartels, assisted by Perley and Graham. Renous native Caitie McCabe scored the third goal assisted by McIntyre, followed by Graham’s goal with assists to Peterson and Murphy. The fifth goal was scored by Rothesay’s Christina Rombaut, assisted by Poitras and Dinan.
In their fourth game the V-Reds defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-1. Goals were scored by Bartels, Miramichi prospect Catherine Hache and Graham with assists to Peterson, McIntyre and Perley.
The V-Reds played the Maplesoft Hawks (Minor) of Ottawa in the quarter final round winning 2-0 on goals by McIntyre and Perley with one assist to Graham on the Perley goal. Mikayla Nichols of Oromocto recorded her second shutout of the tournament.
In the semi-final round the V-Reds defeated the host Quebec Bulldogs/Remparts winning 2-0 on goals by Christina Rombaut, assisted by Porter and Hache and Poitras. Marlene Boissonnault of Campbellton recorded the shutout.
In the final the V-reds lost a very close game to the Montreal Avalanche for their only loss of the tournament. Montreal scored at 2:15 of the third period before clinching the win with an empty net goal in the last minute of the game.
Goaltending duties were shared between Mikayla Nichols and Campbellton native Marlene Boissonnault.
The V-Red Prospects Girls travel to New Hampshire for the Reebok Cup Tournament June 1-3.
- May 14, 2012 - U14 Girls Win Big in Quebec !
The UNB V-Red Prospects U14 girls won the organization’s first ever gold medal in a Quebec Tournament at the Drummondville Cascades AAA female hockey tournament last weekend. The V-Reds won their opening game Friday against Patriates de Beauce 1-0 on a goal by Miramichi native Caitie McCabe. Game two on Friday saw the V-Reds out play the Eastern Ontario Herricanes but end up on the short end of a 2-1 loss. The lone V-Reds goal was scored by Catie McCabe, her second goal of the tournament.
Janie Poitras of Fredericton led the V-Reds with two goals in a 6-0 victory over the Vermont Shamrocks in game three on Saturday, while Christina Rombault of Rothesay contributed one goal and two assists. Singles went to Caitie McCabe, Grace Graham of Fredericton and Saint John native Rebecca Ring.
Game four of round robin play saw the V-Reds drop a very tight game to the first place team, the host Cascades AAA girls by a 2-1 score. Janie Poitras scored her third goal of the tournament for the V-Reds.
In the semi final round the V-Reds avenged their earlier 2-1 loss to the Eastern Ontario Herricanes with a convincing 3-1 win on the two goal performance of Chloe Perley of Tobique First Nations, with a single from Catherine Haché. The win placed the V-Reds in the gold medal final against the host Drummondville Cascades.
A 3-1 victory gave the V-Reds the championship trophy on goals by Catherine Haché, Christina Rombaut and Janie Poitras.
The V-Reds defensive play was remarkable throughout the tournament, as the defensive corps limited their opponent’s to less than ten shots per game, allowing only five goals in six games and with goalies Marlene Boissonnault and Mikayla Nichols sharing three shut outs.
The V-Reds registered four teams in the tournament in the U10, U12, U14 and U17 categories.
The V-Reds U10 and U17 teams both made it to the semis before being eliminated from tournament play.
V-Reds next tournament is in Quebec City at the Bulldogs AAA Tournament May 18-21st.
