2009 SPRING TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Wins: 22 Losses: 11 Ties: 5 Total Games Played: 38

Congratulations to the team on a great year!!

June 18 - 21, Montreal Meltdown - The 99 V-Red Prospects brought their game to another level, as Semi Finalists in their last tournament of the year, at the Montreal Meltdown, on 18 - 21 June. The success at this tournament was a milestone, as the team had never defeated a Quebec based team in Quebec during their 3 year history!! You've come along way boys, keep up the great work!!!

The team finished first in their division with 4 straight wins. In game 1, the team cruised to an 8-2 win over the Montreal Kings. Game 2 saw the V-Reds hand the Montreal Metro Blades a 3-0 defeat. In game 3, the Reds went on to win against Hub City in an identical 3-0 score and in game 4, the team trounced the 99 Ice Dragons 5-1. In game 5, the Quarter Final was a battle to the finish, in a 2-1 overtime win vs. the New England Nordiques. In game 6, the Semi Final, the team fell to the 99 Junior Canadiens in a 4-0 contest. The boys played hard, but the bounces weren't on their side!

May 29 - 31, 2009 Top Prospects Challenge Cup - The team dominated during the round robin, but fell short in the semi - finals at the Top Prospects Challenge Cup, this past weekend in Halifax. The Reds opened up the tournament with a decisive 7 - 2 win over the Cape Breton Island Ice Dogs, then defeated the Nova Scotia Voyageurs in a one sided contest 12 - 0, during the opening day of tournament play. Day 2 saw the boys continue their Stellar play with a 7 - 1 decision over the NB Eastern Attack and a 6 - 1 win over the T-Force, from Halifax. The semi - final game on day 3 wasn't in the cards, as the boys fell to the Cape Breton Island Ice dogs, 3 - 2 in overtime . Overall, the team played well and will continue to learn from their tournament experiences. It was a good weekend had by all!!!

May 25, 2009 - Bluenose Cup - The team gained more momentum in their Spring Season home stretch drive, with another very strong tournament, posting a Gold Medal win in Halifax! The boys were in control from start to finish in all 4 games, posting a 12 - 0 win over the 99 V-Red Regional Team, a 5 - 1 win vs. the Ottawa Voyageurs, a 5 - 0 win against the Targett from Halifax and a 7 - 3 Gold Medal victory, over the host Nova Scotia Selects team.

May 8, 2009 - Blue Water Hockey Classic - The 99 V-Red Prospects hit their stride at the Blue Water Hockey Classic in Summerside, PEI. One of the toughest and most challenging tournaments for the spring schedule, the boys played awesome and met the challenge with a great tournament!! Last year, the team didn't win a game at the tournament, but this year produced a very different outcome. The first game saw the boys tie their rival, NB Stars, by a score of, 2 - 2. Carrying the momentum to game 2, the Reds defeated the Nova Scotia Raiders, 4 - 2. Game 3 was a nail biter, as the boys tied a competitive Nova Scotia Jr. X-Men, 1 - 1. Game 4 was particularly gratifying for the boys, as they won 4 -2, against a very strong host PEI Xtreme team, that beat them by a score of 9 - 1 last year!! The Gold Medal game saw the V-Reds up against their Provincial rivals, the NB Stars. The team played hard, but Gold wasn't in the cards in this final, 2 - 0 loss. The team definately hit the next level at this tournament and look forward to playing to their potential for the remainder of the season. A big congratulations to the boys on a well earned Silver Medal that felt like a Gold!! A great performance and effort by the 99 V-Reds!!

Apr 25-26, 2009 - VReds Challenge Cup - The '99 VRed Prospects win Silver in a tough loss to their arch rivel, Nova Scotia Prospects, by a score of 6-2, in the VRed Challenge Cup Gold Medal game. In other '99 VRed tournament action, the 99's played to a 3-1 loss vs NS Prospects, a 3-1 win vs Cape Breton Island Ice Dogs, a 2-1 loss vs NS Prospects and a 5-1 win vs Cape Breton Island Ice Dogs. The boys played a good tournament overall and continue to learn and improve! The team is optimistic that there are more good things to come down the stretch of their spring schedule !!

Apr 17-19, 2009 - Minuteman Flames Spring Classic - After 8 hours of travel, the team started out the tournament with a mild case of, "Road Legs," losing their first 2 games. They posted losses of 4-0, at the hands of a strong, Protech Hockey team and 6-1, to the Atlantic All-Stars (made up of players from NY, New Jersey and Long Island). The team needed some down time, pool side and a few games of mini-sticks to regroup and regroup they did !! A strong effort in game 3, earned the team a 3 - 3 tie with the Minuteman Lind. In game 4, they gained momentum, enroute to a 5-2 win over the Minuteman (team 2) and finished very strong, with a thrilling Bronze Medal game win over the Connecticut Nordiques, by a score of 5-4 in overtime!

Apr 16, 2009 - Junior Wildcats Lobster Cup - The team had a great start to the 2009 Spring Season. They finished with a 2-1-1 record overall in the tournament. They started out on a good note, with a convincing 6 - 1, opening game victory over the Target T-Force from Nova Scotia, to set the tone. The second game was a different story, with a 3 -3 tie against a much improved, Nova Scotia Selects. The boys showed a lot of character to salvage the tie in this one...after the first period, they were down 2 - 0, before launching the comeback! Game 3 was a lopsided contest, as the guys cruised to a convincing, 9 - 1 win over the Moncton Jr. Wildcat host team. The stage was set for the final Gold Medal game. It was a rematch against the same PEI Riptide team, that the boys played against in 2008! The Riptide came out of the gate flying and never lost momentum as they handed our team a 5 - 0 loss. Overall, the team had a fun weekend, played great, learned lots and received a much deserved, Silver Medal !!!
