- TRIPLE GOLD FOR 2002 V-REDS – ANOTHER TOURNAMENT WIN! - The 2002 V-Red Prospects completed their very successful spring season by winning gold this past weekend (June 10-12) in the Atom Minor Division of the North American Summer Hockey Championships Tournament in Boston (Marlborough), Mass.
The V-Reds went 4-1-1 in the tournament and 2-1-1 in the round robin with wins against the Montreal AAA Cobras (5-1) and the Maine Blizzard (10-0); a tie against the New Jersey AAA Raiders (4-4); and a loss against the Connecticut Werewolves (2-1) despite outshooting the Werewolves 27-7. The V-Reds advanced to the semis and defeated the Connecticut Werewolves 4-2 in the rematch on Sunday morning. They then played the undefeated New Jersey Raiders in the Championship Gold Medal game later that afternoon and won the spirited high scoring affair 7-6. Cody Gilbert from Chipman, NB led the way for the V-Reds in the final game with 3 goals (hat trick) and 2 assists, including scoring the game winner with 46 seconds left to play by winning the race to a loose puck in the neutral zone and beating the NJ goaltender on the lower glove side. Sam Campbell had two goals in the final game and led all V-Reds scorers in the tournament with 8 goals, followed by Cody Gilbert (7) and Dawson Stairs (6). Noah Prudhomme was the top scoring V-Reds defensemen in the tournament with 2 goals. The 2002 UNB V-Reds finish their very successful 5 tournament spring season with an impressive overall record of 20-5-1, winning three of five tournaments...three golds and one silver.
- April 28, 2011 - Double Gold for 2002 V-Reds- The 2002 UNB V-Reds have started their 2011 spring season with a bang ! The V-Reds continued their winning ways during the Easter weekend winning the Express Hockey Cup in Saint John.
The V-Reds defeated the NS Target T-Force in the final 4-2 to claim the
gold with goals by Dawson Stairs (2), Liam Crawford and Sam Campbell (winning goal).
The V-Reds were also gold medal winners at the SE Hockey Development (Jr. Wildcats) tournament in Moncton two weeks before (April 8-10), as well as silver medal winners at the V-Reds Challenge Cup tournament (April 15-17) in Fredericton.
The V-Reds current record stands at 13 wins and only 2 losses. - April 17, 2011 - '02 V-Reds win Silver at UNB V-Reds Challenge Cup - The V-Reds continued their winning ways at the V-Reds Challenge Cup with a perfect 4-0 round robin that included victories over the Jr. Wildcats (7-0), NS Prospects (8-3), NS Selects (8-2), and Express (6-2). Unfortunately, fatigue and good goaltending on the opposing team appeared to be factors as the V-Reds came up short and lost their first and only game of the season to the NS Selects in the Gold Medal final. After two tournaments, the V-Reds record is 8 Wins and 1 Loss , outscoring their opponents 60-20 overall.
- April 10, 2011 – '02 V-Reds win Gold at SE Hockey Development Lobster Cup – After a perfect 3-0 round robin that included strong one-sided victories over the Jr. Wildcats (6-0), Nova Scotia fire (8-0) and SE Selects (10-4), the V-Reds defeated the Jr. Wildcats 7-4 in the tournament final to capture the Gold.
