What happened with the '98 V-Reds in 2007 ?

  1. Oct 01, 2007 - The coaching staff are pleased to announce that Joseph Dempsey, Logan Estey and Kyle Anderson have agreed to play for the '98 VReds Prospects this upcoming season. All three players bring with them extensive elite hockey experience which will only strengthen the overall competitiveness of the team. Welcome aboard, Joseph, Logan and Kyle !

  2. July 11,2007 - '98 V-Reds show their determination in Portland, Maine ! This past weekend the '98 VReds competed in the prestigious AAA Maine LobsterFest Tournament and came within a single point of competing for the championship. This year teams from Chicago, New Hamphire, Quebec, Rhode Island and Maine competed in the 98 division. Each team was to play four round robin games with the top two teams competing for the championship.

The V-Reds began their quest for gold going up against the always tough Cantonniers de L'estrie from Quebec. Both teams came out hard and never gave up. The end result was a game that had to be determined in overtime. Two minutes of 5 on 5 proved nothing, but the V-Reds scored and won the game during the 3 on 3 portion with only seconds remaining.

The V-Reds next opponent was the unknown Chicago Cougars. Not knowing what to expect from the Cougars, the V-Reds came out a little slow and never were able to recover against a team that showed skill and speed never witnessed at the 98 level. While the V-Reds never gave up, they did come out on the short end by a score of 12 – 1. The Cougars, who were coached by NHL'er Matthew Barnaby, rolled over every team in the tournament by 15+ goals...the V-Reds were their toughest competition.

Heading into the second day of action with a record of 1-1, the V-Reds knew they had to compete hard if they were to play in the championship.

Their first game of the day was against the Rhode Island Saints. Not a big team but a fast team, both teams created opportunities but couldn’t decide the outcome in regulation so off to overtime again. This time it came down to a shootout. The end result was a narrow margin of victory for the Saints.

With their record 1-1-1, the V-Reds needed a victory against the New Hampshire Summer Guns and some help with a Quebec loss to ensure a trip to the finals. The V-Reds kept their end of the bargain with a hard fought shootout win leaving them with a 2-1-1 record.

In the end, the V-Reds did not get the help they needed and missed playing the championship game by a single point.

The 2007 season is now over and preparations are now underway for 2008 season which will prove to be even bigger and more successful than this year.

  3. May 22,2007 - This past weekend the '98 V-Reds competed in the always tough Bluenose Cup in Halifax. From the very beginning they had their work cut for them. The schedule makers knew that they would be a force to be reckoned with and made sure they were to play the top teams at the least convenient times. Early Sat morning the kids were put to the test with a tough game against the Shock Bolts from NS. Leading 3-0 after two periods, the effects of a short week after competing in PQ, the kids grew tired and had to settle for a 3-3 draw. The next day was to be their toughest. They were scheduled to play the top two teams. Early Sun morning they played the host club, NS Selects. The kids knew that they were the team to beat and after trailing 2-1 late in the game scored with a few minutes remaining to complete a hard fought 2-2 battle. Later that night, they took on another top squad from PEI. This too proved to be a key matchup. The end result was 2-1 loss. Completing the round robin with a 0-1-2 record, required them to compete in the 8:00am 5th vs 6th game the next morning. The kids were determined to show everyone that they are a top club despite their record and were committed to finishing this tournament on a positive note. Playing the Jr. Wildcats from NB, they came out hard and never let up with the final score being 8-0.
The team is now taking a couple of weeks off to rest before preparations begin for the Lobsterfest Tournament scheduled for July 5-8 in Portland Maine.

  4. May 15,2007 - WOW...what a weekend in La Belle Province !!!! This past weekend the '98 V-Reds Prospects made their inaugural trip to Quebec City to attend the prestigous Challenge Cup. Top Elite teams from across Quebec, New England and the Maritimes annually attend this tournament. The teams are strong and the games are tough.

Leading up to the tournament the kids worked extremely hard in practice and were determined to give it their all and demonstrate why they're considered one of the top Elite teams in the Maritimes.

In their initial game of the tournament, they defeated the Quebec City Ice Dogs 4-2 in a hard fought battle. In their second game of the day the kids locked horns with the Quebec City Thunder Dogs coming out on the short end 4-1.

Heading into the second day of round robin play, the kids were looking to build on their 1-1 record and secure a spot in the crossovers. Their first game of the day was against the very strong Montreal Rockets. While the score of 5-0 may not seem impressive, the kids put forth an excellent effort.

In their final game of the round robin, the kids met the Montreal Vipers. They were determined to finish the round robin portion of the tournament on a positive note and give themselves a chance to play in the crossovers. With this in mind, the kids showed their resilience and finished with a hard fought 3-2 win.

Unfortunately, with their 2-2 record, it was not enough to make the crossovers but they did finish a very respectable 5th out of 10 teams.

The kids are really looking forward to carrying their momentum over to next weekend when they travel to Halifax to take part in the Bluenose Cup.

  5. April 16,2007 - Over the past weekend the '98 V-Reds attended their first tournament of the season and by all accounts it was a great success. The players put forth an excellent effort and while they came out on the short end of the scoresheet a couple of times, the experience they gained will only make them a stronger force in their next tournament to be held in Quebec City the weekend of May 12 - 14.

  6. April 13, 2007 - The coaching staff are pleased and excited to announce that Creighton Sanipass has agreed to join the team. More info on Creighton can be found within his profile.
