RECENT NEWS / EVENTS / SCHEDULES

  1. May 4-6, Gouverneurs Tournament in Saint - Hubert, QC - The boys travelled to Saint-Hubert, QC for the 4–6 May, Gouverneurs Hockey Tournament this past weekend. They got off to a quick start with a big win over the Laval Flames, by a score of 8–1. This was great for the teams confidence to come to their first tournament in Quebec and win the first game, they were in control from start to finish in this contest.

In game 2 against the Montreal Metro Sheriffs, the team got another quick start going for them by jumping out to a 4–0 lead early in the game. By the end of the 2nd period, the team was still ahead, by a score of 5–2 and things were looking good. The 3rd period in this game proved to be the Reds demise, as the Sheriffs stormed back and “handcuffed” our team with 4 goals in the 3rd period. In the end, the game went to the Sheriffs, by a score of 6–5 over our boys.

Game 3 saw the V-Reds against a very strong local Gouverneurs team. The kids lost this one by a score of 11–0! The boys battled hard as usual, but ended up on the wrong side of the score in this one.

Game 4 was a replay of game 3, as the team faced another very strong Montreal Canadiens Blue team and fell short by a score of 12–1.

Both of our teams Goalies, played very well in both of these last 2 games, despite the lopsided score and never quit for a second!

This was the end of the tournament for the team for the weekend, but it was a great learning experience. The 04’s know where the bar is against some of the stronger teams now and will continue to work hard and practice to get to the next level. As one of the parents said after the 2 losses....”this only makes you want you to get better!” ........and we will!!

  2. April 13 – April 15, Shamrock Elite Hockey, Foxboro, Mass. – The '04 V-Reds played some great hockey at the Shamrock Elite Hockey Tournament, this past weekend, making it all the way to the finals in their first ever, '04 Division tournament!

They started out the tournament against a very strong local Blue Chip Blue Team and lost that first game by a score of 8 – 0.

The kids got their legs in the next 3 games, posting a 6–1 win in game 2, over the local, Blue Chip White Team, a 2–2 tie in game 3 vs. the Connecticut Selects and a 4–1 win over the Connecticut Selects in the semi-final game.

This set the stage for a re-match against the Blue Chip Blue Team in the finals. The kids battled hard and never gave up, but this team was a very strong '04 team, arguably the strongest that the boys have gone up against and in the end, they lost the final, by a score of 10–0! Skill wise, our team could match them, but the decisions the Blue Chip Blue team made with the puck, were ahead of their age group...by far. The score was no indication of the effort the boys put forth, as they pushed back as best they could, with some shots and scoring chances of their own....but they were up against a very good goalie as well.....The future is very exciting for this fine local group of young hockey players, with more success on the way, as the kids keep learning the game!

It was a great tournament and a great experience for the team. Now we will go back to the drawing board, with high hopes and lots to be positive about, as we get ready for our next tournament in Charlottetown, PE. on 20 – 22 April.

  3. April 20 – 22, Oyster Cup, Charlottetown - The kids had another great weekend, making it all the way to the finals for the 2nd consecutive tournament! Two Silvers in as many starts...not too bad!

Game 1....As luck would have it, the kids were baptised by fire again to start off the tournament, with a tough game vs. the Nova Scotia Selects. When the dust settled, the team ended up on the wrong side of an 11–5 loss! Game 2...saw the boys battle back and defeat a strong, home town PEI Riptide team, by a score of 5–2. Game 3...In this game the team hammered a “bewildered,” NS Stars team, by a score of 26–0!! It should be noted that the boys did not show boat in any way, and lined up for their face off, right after each goal, keeping their celebrations low key. Game 4...In this game, the team came out and picked up where they left off, dominating the Blizzard Dogs of NFLD by a score of 9–0. With these wins, the Reds advanced to the Game 5 final, to square off against the N.S. Selects. The team seemed to be back on their heels throughout the game, still licking their wounds from the game 1 loss to the Selects and dropped the final, by a score of 10–5! All in all though, it was another successful weekend had by all and the kids learned a lot. The team is now preparing to head off to Saint-Hubert for their 3rd of 5 tournaments, next weekend...4–6 May and will continue to work on that elusive Gold medal!!
