99 V-Reds
Welcome to the home of the '99 V-Red Prospects.
The '99 V-Red Prospects are coached by Art Wood, Mark Glynn and managed by Darin Tracey.
After a winter of minor hockey on their respective teams, the players are excited to get together for another fun and successful spring hockey season.
The team has an excellent group of returning and new players this year, that are ready to play some hockey!!
Go V-Reds Go !!!
- May 26 - May 29, Montreal Meltdown – Montreal started out great for the team this year. The boys always seem to peek at this time of the spring season. They started the tournament out with a 6 – 2 win over the Montreal junior Lions, dominating all aspects of the game. Game 2 saw the Reds win by a narrow margin, squeaking through, with a 3 – 2 decision over the 99 Voltigeurs. In game 3, the team came out flying with an 11 – 0 blowout over a shell shocked, 99 HST team from Montreal. Next was game 4 and the guys played their hearts out in a hard won contest, 4 – 2 over a rugged Patriotes De Sherbrooke squad. Unfortunately the teams run ended, as the Cobras, hailing out of the Montreal area, defeated the good guys, by a score of 5 – 2 in semi-final play. The 99 V-Reds capped their season off with this Meltdown tournament, playing very well in the tournament and throughout their spring season! Congratulations to all the players, coaches and parents for a great season! Best of luck in the future and we hope everyone has a great summer!!
- May 13 - May 15, 99 Nova Scotia Cup, Halifax, NS – The '99 V-Red Prospects started out strong in their first ever appearance at the '99 Nova Scotia Cup, with back to back wins in their first 2 games of the tournament. Game 1 saw the boys drop a rugged, rough and tumble, Nova Scotia Raiders team by a score of 3 - 2. In game 2, the Reds defeated an old adversary, the Cape Breton Island Ice Dogs in a close 4 - 3 contest. After that, things started to go sour as the team fell 3 games straight. They first dropped a 7 - 3 decision to their NB rivals, the NB Stars, next the PEI Extreme topped them by a score of 5 - 3 and finally, the PEI Extreme again, in a 5 - 0 loss. At this point, the kids found themselves in the Bronze Medal game against the NB Stars. This was a great opportunity for the team to finally get the monkey off their back and defeat the Stars, while also redeeming themselves in the tournament, after the previous 3 losses. Well......the guys did both!!! They beat the Stars for the first time in 4 years and also captured the Bronze Medal in this 7 team tournament! A big congratulations to the team on this sweet victory. It might have been a Bronze Medal, but to the players, coaches and parents, it felt like they won the Olympic Gold Medal for Team Canada.
- April 29 - May 1, PEI Extreme, Summerside PEI – The Extreme tournament isn’t always kind to the 99 V-Reds. The last couple of springs have proven to be a good challenge for the team. In last weekend’s tournament, the guy’s couldn’t quite put everything together, despite a good team effort. Game 1 saw the Reds drop a 2 – 0 decision to their provincial rival NB Stars. It seemed like the team were in control throughout, but just couldn’t put the first one in on the NB Stars goalie. In game 2, the boys got back on track, with a decisive, 3 – 1 victory over the host, PEI Extreme. With momentum on their side, the Reds struck first against the NS Raiders in game 3, but ended up losing a 3 – 1 decision on 2nd and 3rd period goals by the Raiders. For game 4, the V-Reds had to face the NB Stars again. Things looked good with a 1 – 1 tie close to the end of the 2nd period. Then everything got dicey, as the Stars scored 1 late in the 2nd and added 6 unanswered 3rd period goals to sink the good guys, in this 8 – 1 loss. The Bronze Medal game 5 vs. the NS Raiders ended 5 – 1. The team held them to a 1 -1 tie after the 1st period, but the 2nd period proved fatal with the Raiders scoring 4 goals in that middle frame. All in all, the boys played hard and learned from their mistakes. With a fire in their belly after this past weekend, the 99 V-Reds will no doubt, come out flying in the next tournament in Halifax against the same group of opposing teams.
- April 15 – April 17, Credit Union Classic, Moncton – The Credit Union Classic in Moncton delivered some stiff competition against their Provincial rival, NB Stars with a 1 – 1 tie in game 1 action. It looked like we were headed for our first ever win against the Stars, but were denied by a lucky goal off a skate that found it’s way to the back of the net. In game 2, the boys had a bit of a slow start as they were down 3- 0 to the PEI Extreme, before launching their come back. Unfortunately they had to settle for a 3 – 2 defeat as the clock showed no mercy and the team ran out of time! In game 3 vs. the NB Selects, the team rebounded and were firing on all cylinders, shell shocking the Selects goalie, with a convincing 7 – 0 blow out. In game 4 the boys came out on a mission, outshooting the NB Stars 11 – 2 in the first period. When the smoke cleared, it was not to be, as the team came up short in this 2 – 0 loss. It should be noted that both goals were scored while the kids were shorthanded. In game 5, the Bronze medal game, the team came up big again against the NB Selects with a 7 – 3 win. The V-Reds played and worked very hard in this tournament and will continue this work ethic into their next tournament in PEI.
- April 8 – April 10, Minuteman Flames Spring Classic – The 2011 version of the 99 V-Red Prospects started their spring season with a bang! They nailed a Gold Medal at the Minuteman Flames Spring Classic in Marlboro Mass.
The boys wasted no time with a decisive 5 – 1 win over the Westchester Selects, then carried on the momentum with a one sided, 9 – 2 victory over the Brockville Ice Hawgs. Next up, was a 7 – 2 loss at the hands of the host, Minuteman Nugent team. It should be noted that the Reds were shorthanded most of the game and really couldn’t gain any footing in this contest. In the teams 4th game, the kids didn’t waste any time exacting revenge on a host team, as they manhandled the Minuteman Ackil 8 – 1. The playoffs provided plenty of entertainment, with 2 overtime victories for the team. They started off beating the Granite State Selects, 2 -1 in overtime and then finished off with a Gold Medal overtime win, 4-3, over the Minuteman Nugent. Congrats to the players, coaches and parents for a job well done!
